Conversations
Conversations with people trying to understand why humans cooperate, divide — and what might help us do better.
Beyond Tribes brings together researchers, practitioners and other thinkers working on different pieces of the same puzzle.
The conversations will range across evolutionary biology, anthropology, psychology, history, political science, economics, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, education and other fields — looking for connections between ideas that are often studied separately.
They will not all agree.
The aim is not to assemble voices around a predetermined answer, but to ask good questions, follow disagreements where they lead, and understand what the evidence can, and cannot, tell us.
First conversations in development
The first Beyond Tribes conversations are now being organised.
Early interviews will explore the evolutionary origins of human cooperation, the psychology of group identity and division, the forces that turn disagreement into hostility, and what research tells us about crossing boundaries between groups.
As conversations are recorded and published, they will appear here.
Know someone Beyond Tribes should speak with?
New conversations will appear here as the project develops.
